The 1983 Gathering logo is a stylized geometrical symbol suggesting the "sunburst" patterns that are a part of much of the Indian and Spanish culture in southern Texas and Mexico. The Cross in the center of the logo suggests that Christ is at the center of the lives of Christians as our Amigo.
There are twelve figures gathered around the Cross, symbolizing the Amigos de Cristo, the friends of Christ, their arms around the Word and Sacraments. The figures have their "arms" around each other, symbolizing the fellowship we all have as believers in Christ. At the same time, the figures have their "feet" spread apart, suggesting a "ready" pose, prepared to take the Gospel to the unbelieving world, to make all people AMIGOS DE CRISTO.
